The Pomodoro Technique: A Way to Manage Your Time

What is it?

The Pomodoro Technique™ is a way to get the most out of time management. Turn time into a valuable ally to accomplish what we want to do and chart continuous improvement in the way we do it.

How  can I start?

The basic unit of work in the Pomodoro Technique™ can be split in five simple steps:

  1. Choose a task to be accomplished
  2. Set the Pomodoro to 25 minutes (the Pomodoro is the timer)
  3. Work on the task until the Pomodoro rings, then put a check on your sheet of paper
  4. Take a short break (5 minutes is OK)
  5. Every 4 Pomodoros take a longer break

    Hi Greg. I’ve used the Pomodoro technique, and found it a bit difficult matching tasks to 25 minute slots. My work consists of research and writing so I just commit to researching and writing for seven 40 minute slots every day. In between I can email, make phone calls, exercise, do household chores, anything really but once I’m in a 40 minute slot I must either be researching or writing. I feel very productive, when I stick to it. And I don’t get tired, like I would if I worked for hours without a break.

    BTW I love your blueprint – great way to introduce people to the blog.
